Club Med Phuket
Phuket, worldwide renown island for its superb sandy beaches and magnificent sceneries, is also the perfect destination for expatriates living in Asia, looking for a safe haven with not only attractive prices but also quality hotels and excellent services. During a stay in Phuket, one of many as we launched in 2016 The Phuket Committee, the Franco Thai Chamber of Commerce had the great opportunity to try out Club Med Phuket and give you more information about it!
Our first impression Upon our arrival at the airport, we were welcomed by Club Med team who directed us to a big air-con van and refreshing cold bottles of water (the round trip fare is included in Club Med booking). Within less than 1-hour drive (yes! Phuket is the largest island in Thailand), we arrived at Kata Beach, a well known but fairly quiet beach in the South of the island. The lobby is located in a big Thai style building, modern and delicate, enhancing a relaxed and calm atmosphere. A staff member dressed in a Thai traditional outfit will lead you to a lovely patio, opening to one of the two swimming pools of Club Med. You will enjoy a welcome drink whilst admiring in a distance, the beach and the turquoise sea. Most of the buildings are designed in the local long-houses style, with wood, silk, and marble which disseminate a zen mood in a magnificent tropical, colorful and peaceful garden.
The Village, spread over 25 hectares, is nestled in a vast palm grove on Kata large beach. The resort has 3 types of accommodation ranging from the Single room over the gardens to the Deluxe room with a furnished terrace or the Suite with a separate living area. We stayed in a Deluxe room located on the ground floor, very cozy and spacious with a small terrace furnished with 2 deck chairs, overlooking at the palm grove and the sea.
The perk: Club Med thinks of it all and supplies all amenities like shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, body lotions for the traveler guests who do not have any checked in luggage and can’t take these items on board!
The reputation of Club Med is to keep you entertained at all times by offering a large range of activities for the little ones as well as for the grown-ups. And the one in Phuket is no exception! Indeed, we were able to try a tennis class and an outdoor Yoga class lulled by the sound of the palms. In addition, we attended several snorkeling activities offered in our package. We were impressed by how well they were professionally supervised. The Team will first ensure you can swim in a pool, before taking you half an hour away from the resort, for a dive in a crystal clear water rich in colorful fishes.
As for their excursions, we chose to go to Racha Island as suggested by the Excursion Manager. Departure time at 8.00 is to go to the pier located on the South of the island and take a speedboat to reach this absolutely beautiful and quiet island. Then, we dived in a small sea cove a few minutes away from the island and snorkeled between rocks before heading back to the resort for lunch. An amazing and exciting excursion we highly recommend!
The resort has 2 restaurants we have tried out: the main one, Mamuang (which means mango in Thai), where the daily meals are served on a buffet concept with a wide variety of western, especially French, and Asian food. The other restaurant, Chu Da, located near the second swimming pool, is smaller and quieter and offers Thai specialties and delicious seafood. Don’t forget to book ahead!
Club Med Phuket also has a Payot Spa offering a warm and intimate atmosphere for a true moment of peace and relaxation. We decided to relax and let the staff take care of us as they are fully competent and they recommended a Payot package specially designed for a delicate moment suspended in time!
Very well located between land and sea, between a palm cove and a white sand beach, Club Med Phuket offers a real moment of relaxation filled with little pleasures. It is the ideal place to rest, to have a break during a weekend if you live nearby or for a longer stay if you are coming from further away.
With its various options, you can practice many different activities depending on the kind of holidays you want to spend, whether you prefer sportive holidays or farniente.
You may also explore Phuket island and the Thai culture if it is your first time in this wonderful country or simply enjoy the French buffet if you are us and you miss cheese!
